About Us
Warwickshire Iyengar Yoga CIC is a group of like-minded Iyengar yoga teachers who want to make yoga accessible to all members of the community. The proven physical and mental benefits of yoga are well known and are made accessible to people of all ages and abilities through BKS Iyengar’s unique teaching methods.
As a not-for-profit organisation we are trying to keep our classes as affordable as possible, while at the same time developing our facilities. Although the studio is complete we still have a long way to go to make our back room and courtyard into welcoming refreshment and socialising spaces for our students to enjoy. We’re aiming to raise £5,000 through funding and donations. If you can donate even a small amount it would help us to speed up our activity. Thank you for your generosity, we really appreciate your help.
Outreach work
As a CIC we are applying for community funding to offer outreach programmes to social enterprises, schools and charity organisations. If you know of a group that would benefit from Iyengar Yoga classes, then please get in touch at iyengar.yoga@yahoo.co.uk.
Some of the groups we have worked with:
British Wheel of Yoga, The Farm – Snitterfield, Warwickshire County Council, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, The Sydni Centre and Brunswick Health Hub.

What We Do
We’re so excited to share a short film made by local communications agency Chilli Mint.
They made it free of charge to help promote us as a local non-profit organization.
We’re delighted with the result and we hope you enjoy it, too.
Thank you to all the volunteers but especially to those who gave such wonderful testimonials.
Come and join us! Book a place today – Beginners and more experienced students welcome.

The benefits of Iyengar yoga
BKS Iyengar had a daily dedicated yoga practice for over 70 years. He knew the importance of exercise balanced with recovery and recuperation and breathing exercises (pranayama). During years of self-study and observing his students he developed a highly tuned and unique level of awareness of the beneficial effects each pose had on physical and mental health. He developed specific programmes which helped a wide range of physical and emotional conditions from arthritis, sciatica and osteoporosis to eczema, bulimia, anorexia, infertility, impotence, alcoholism and depression, to name a few. BKS Iyengar had 5 daughters and 1 son. Geeta, the eldest, wrote ‘Yoga: A Gem for Women” in 1983. Today’s Iyengar Yoga teachers are well versed in teaching women through all the stages of life and adapting poses to accommodate hormonal changes.
Mr Iyengar’s method of teaching was developed so everyone no matter their age or ability can enjoy the vast range of benefits from practising yoga. His method leads students from simple to more advanced poses in a way that is safe and yet challenging. Significant benefits can be gained from even the most elementary poses if done regularly, with care and focus.
Improved muscle tone
Muscle strength and physical stamina is improved and increase with practice. All the muscle groups are involved and postures such as twists massage and tone the internal organs too. Many say their performance in other physical activities improves.
Increased flexibility
Poses stretch and mobilise all the major and minor joints. Greater flexibility reduces aches and pains, enhances quality of life and contributes significantly to a more active and enjoyable older age.
Better posture
Good posture allows the major organs in the chest and abdomen to work more effectively which improves the quality of breath. It also reduces neck, back and shoulder pain, improves overall health and increases self-confidence and a feeling of optimism.
Improved immunity
Each Iyengar yoga class is structured to work all ten systems of the body: circulatory, digestive, excretory, hormonal, lymphatic, muscular, nervous, respiratory, reproductive and skeletal. The poses help to detoxify the body and the lowering of stress hormones creates a calming effect that lowers susceptibility to infection.
Fewer injuries
The variety of movements practised in yoga strengthens muscles and prevents them from being injured via pull or strain. Many report that improvements in flexibility and muscle tone reduce injury and that any injuries that occur recover more quickly.
Reduced anxiety
Iyengar yoga classes are safe yet challenging. The mental focus required to perfect the detail of the poses is absorbing and a relief from the pressures of life. Students often report a sense of clarity and/or objectivity that brings about a feeling of equilibrium and resilience that helps to decrease feelings of stress.
